About David Wolfenbarger
I grew up in Boulder City, Nevada. This is a small town between Hoover Dam (at the border between Arizona and Nevada) and Las Vegas. Boulder City has the distinction of being the only city or town in the entire state of Nevada where gambling is illegal. My mother and the younger of my two brothers still live in Nevada. I got my BSEE from the University of Arizona in Tucson and went to work for Motorola in Phoenix. I got married and had two awesome kids and got divorced. I eventually got remarried and now live with my wife and our combined families in Gilbert. In my early Motorola career, I worked for the Government Electronics group. After 13 years there, I left and joined the Satellite Communications division where, for 9 years, I worked to help define, sell, and architect the ground control system for the Iridium satellite based cellular telephone system. I then dabbled in applying that technology to other satellite based communication systems including Teledesic, none of which was ever built. Next, for two years, I led the architecture team of Motorola's Operational Support Systems Division working on network management systems for Motorola's 3G wireless telephone and data systems. When the Arizona portion of OSSD was whacked, I transitioned to the lead of a network management systems engineering team supporting the development of a 3G wireless voice and data system under contract to Nextel. In early 2002, I quit Motorola after 23 years and joined General Dynamics Decision Systems. This part of GD used to be the Motorola Government Electronics group before Motorola sold that part of the business to GD. For around two years, I was a member of an Advanced Technology section responsible for providing technical support and direction the the General Dynamics Integrated Systems Division. I then acted as the technical lead on a Future Combat System (FCS) software proposal for a $100M Planning and Preparation Services (PPS) system, the competition for which, we won. For a couple years, I acted as FCS Lead Engineer for BMSD. I then became the Chief Architect for the Battle Command Systems Group where I worked CPOF, FCS, and other C4ISR opportunities for GD. I then assumed the position of Chief Systems Engineer for the Battle Management Systems Division where I currently work on all aspects of systems engineering, technical strategy, and business development. I am a modern day wizard. I perform magic , both of the traditional, conjuring variety and the modern computer based type. I am a member of Ring 55 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians with close-up magic my specialty. I spend a lot of time playing with and building computers. I am interested in digital art and photography, graphics, desktop publishing, digital video production and the Net. I also enjoy outdoor activities including biking, camping, working in the yard, playing in the backyard swimming pool, and riding my motorcycle. I also enjoy indoor activities like snuggling and cuddling and such.
